Since 1993, Profanity have been one of Germany's most steadfast pillars of underground technical death metal, a band built not on trends but on sheer conviction. Hailing from Bavaria, the current four-piece brings together Thomas Sartor (guitar, vocals), Lukas Haidinger (vocals), Dimitri Boudon (bass), and Josef Beck (drums), a lineup that carries over three decades of accumulated brutality and craft. Their debut albums Shadows to Fall (1997) and Slaughtering Thoughts (2000) announced a band with both the technical firepower and the old-school grit to matter. After years of silence, they returned in 2014 with the EP Hatred Hell Within, recorded at Iguana Studios with producer Christoph Brandes (Necrophagist), and then delivered The Art of Sickness (2017, Apostasy Records), a meticulously constructed record featuring guests Terrance Hobbs (Suffocation), Christian Münzner (Alkaloid, ex-Obscura), Adrie Kloosterwaard (Sinister) and Ricky Myers (Disgorge/Suffocation), with artwork by Pär Olofsson. Their most recent full-length, Fragments of Solace (2020), doubled down on the '90s death metal spirit they grew up with, again with a constellation of guests and a production by Haidinger himself. Profanity have shared stages with Suffocation, Cannibal Corpse, Cryptopsy, Vader, Necrophagist and Defeated Sanity, and graced festivals from Maryland Deathfest and Obscene Extreme to PartySan Open Air. Uncompromising, underground, and still absolutely lethal.
